  1. RED SONJA - A spare time acrylic painting on canvas board, size 16 x 20.

"Red Sonja" is a female character created by Robert E. Howard, she is part of his "Conan" series. As I look at her now I think I should have made her face more rugged looking, she's too pretty for the kind of woman you would expect to find way back in the barbarian age. I could change her appearance on this computer image, but that would not alter the original acrylic painting that I sold a long time ago. I've decided to leave her as is.

I have read that "perfection" is not attainable by human beings, and I have been told the same thing by a variety of people in and out of the art world. But I have looked at drawings and paintings by some great artists and wondered what their imperfections could possibly be? I have listened to a song sung so beautifully I cannot believe it can be sung any better, by anyone. I have read stories so wonderful that when they ended I felt I had encountered something very special. I've seen movies so awesome that when they ended it didn't seem right to get up and leave the theater . . .

We have given the word, "perfection" an automatic status of unreachability that is wholly imaginary, but It is, in my opinion, a false assumption . . .

"Perfection" is reachable in my real world, and has been reached many times by those whose works are so well done that they are an inspiration to me, they make me want to try to reach that same level of accomplishment; to produce a work of unsurpassable beauty. I may not have the talent to do it, but what is glorious, is the trying to do it . . .

If you are trying your best to do your best, in my mind you are doing the "perfect" thing.
